In the Democratic Republic of Congo, tribal chiefs are among those who are the most respected in the society because of their ancestral powers. They are considered protectors of families, and they have a particular attire that makes them easily noticeable in society. Like other ancient societies or kingdoms with a chief or a king, the Congolese society also has its own formalities before meeting with a tribal chief. In this presentation, participants will discuss and illustrate some rituals that are performed when meeting with a Congolese tribal chief. Participants will be engaged in a roleplaying activity in which they will practice interacting with a chief in order to offer them a taste of living in Congolese society.
