Inés Rojas is a native of Mérida, Venezuela. She is from the Venezuelan Andes, part of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. She first came to the United States in 1984 as an AFS student to experience the life of a high schooler in Russel, Kansas. Since then, she has been sharing her Venezuelan culture during her travels through the USA, England, Spain, and India. Of all the countries she has visited, she has spent the most time in the USA as a visitor, a student, and a teacher. She taught at Universidad de Los Andes for 25 years before coming to Des Moines to teach at Drake University as a visiting professor. Throughout her career in higher education, Inés has taught courses in Intercultural Communications, Human Rights, and Literature and Languages. She has emphasized our common humanity amid diversity.

Inés values the creative power of diversity and the fact that we all experience life in the same way, but we manifest our culture in different creative ways. For this reason, working with CultureALL is an opportunity to share what her culture does with corn. Inés currently works for Des Moines Public Schools as a Bilingual Family Liaison, serving as a cultural broker for the district and school staff, supporting and connecting families and children of Spanish-speaking countries to resources, interpretations, and home visits. Inés lives in Sherman Hill with her Chihuahua-mini-Pinscher called Atenea.
