Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.
A Celebration of Culture, Conversation, and Cuisine to Benefit CultureALL
Thank You to Our Sponsor
In the 1967 film Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, Katharine Hepburn, Sidney Poitier and Spencer Tracy did a brilliant job of showing us all how awkward we can feel when we share a meal with people who may appear at first to be different than we are. Breaking bread with strangers is a wonderful opportunity to step outside of our everyday lives and into another person’s world.
Beginning the weekend of October 20-22 and continuing into 2018, community leaders who believe in the power of diversity are hosting public and private gatherings all over the Des Moines metro area to bring people together across cultures to eat, drink, socialize, and forward the conversation of how we can work together to create a community where multiple perspectives are valued and where everyone feels welcome.
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner gatherings are happening all over town. Big parties, small parties, cocktail parties, dinner parties, lunches, brunches, potlucks – it’s up to the host to decide!
For hosts who want to plan their gathering around a specific cultural theme CultureALL can connect them with an Ambassador from that culture who can help make their party extra special – and culturally authentic!
Here are a few of the gatherings that have already happened or are currently in the works:
A Bollywood-themed cocktail party and t-shirt launch at RAYGUN
A “Roll Your Own” (Sushi, that is!) party
Cocktails and Conversation with a World Food Prize Laureate
“What the Phở” – a Vietnamese-themed party
A lasagna-making party with an Italian chef
A magnificent Multi-Cultural Dinner at the River Center event space.

Our Committee Chairs – Renee Hardman, Lonnetta Ragland, and Marcia Wanamaker – invite YOU to become part of this unique-community fundraiser. If you are interested in joining our team of Hosts and want more details, click here to visit our Host Information Page.
Attending a Gathering
Most of the gatherings will be private “by invitation only events,” a few of them will be open to the public, like the Bollywood Social held at RAYGUN in October and the Multi-Cultural Dinnerheld at the River Center in December.
There are not any more public gatherings currently on the schedule, but if you would be interested in attending the next one, keep an eye on this page for additional details, or click here to join the mailing list.
