Juan Lourido has been practicing Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art that blends dance, acrobatics, and music, since 2005. He began in Long Beach, California, and moved to Des Moines, Iowa, in 2017.

Capoeira has profoundly impacted his physical and mental health, inspiring him to share its community and culture with others. Juan has been offering classes for youth and adults at local schools and community centers for over 15 years, using Capoeira to promote cultural awareness, fitness, and diversity.

Currently, he leads workshops through CultureALL, a leader in creating authentic experiences to help Iowans better understand the value of world cultures; and offering classes at Mainframe Studios, the nation’s largest non-profit studio building.

An entrepreneur at heart with a business background, Juan works at Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI), supporting immigrant and refugee communities. His commitment to social responsibility is reflected in his dedication to ethical business practices and community involvement. Through his work, Juan strives to create positive social and cultural change, enriching lives through the values of Capoeira.
